On this lekythos the wisdom goddess Athena and the sea god Poseidon are depicted.
Athena holds a spear in her right hand, snakes wind their way out of her Aegis cape. Typically also the fighting helmet on her head, the girdled robe reaches up to her ankles. Her counterpart Poseidon wears a trident as a symbol of his power. To the left and right of the figures the respective names are noted. Amidst the two gods, the painter Amasis immortalized himself proudly in ancient Greek:

The vase is from the archaic period, 540-530 B.C., exhibited in the Museum Cabinet des Médailles de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris, catalogue no. Paris Médailles 222.
