in the allegorical depiction of a sleeping, winged boy. Eros, Greek "love", often depicted as a naked, winged boy with quiver, arrow and bow, tormented people and gods with his love bullets. He was considered a son of the love goddess Aphrodite and the god of war Ares. (Obviously, the ancient Greeks already recognized the close connection between love and war.
The locality of this gem is Pella, the former Macedonian capital, the birthplace of Alexander the Great. It is dated back to the 4th century B. C. and is located in the Louvre, Paris.
