Ancient Olympics
Sports competitions at the later venue of the Olympic Games of Antiquity already took place in the 11th/10th century BC, but the Olympic Games as a festival were not introduced until 776 BC after the traditional ancient dating. This year the winners' lists will begin. The oldest known list of winners comes from Hippias von Elis, who lived in the 5th and 4th century. Only in the course of time (8th to early 6th century) did the originally local competitions gain supraregional importance.
