The young people shown indulge in a kind of hockey game. This relief was carved into the base of a statue, in the original it has a size of 28 cm x 60 cm.
It was found in Kerameikos, Greek "Töpferquartier", a district in the northwest of Athens in front of the city walls, where the cemetery is also located. Kerameikos was mainly excavated by German archaeologists and many vases of geometric style were discovered. It is dated 490 BC and is on display in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens under inventory number 3477. Under the same inventory number you will find another relief "Quadriga with Warriors", which forms another side part of the Kouros pedestal, size 27 cm x 9.3 cm, for € 23,-.
